Welcome Back Bloomers or should I say Ahoy!
Did you know that cruises are one of the most popular ways to travel? This is because cruises offer passengers the chance to explore different destinations while enjoying all the amenities and activities on board a luxurious ship. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or a first-time traveler, there are a few things, I found helpful planning our cruise, I felt you should know to make the most of your cruise experience.
1. Choosing the Right Cruise:
The first step to a great cruise experience is choosing the right cruise line and ship. Factors to consider include the itinerary, the ship’s size and amenities, the dining options, and the overall vibe of the ship. Researching cruise reviews and talking to a travel agent, like myself, can help you find the perfect match for your budget and preferences.
2. Packing for Your Cruise:
Packing for a cruise can be tricky, as you’ll need to bring enough clothes and accessories for various activities and occasions. A great tip is checking the weather in the destinations you will be visiting ahead of time to be prepared for a truly hot or rainy day. Be sure to check the dress code for the ship’s restaurants and entertainment venues, and pack comfortable shoes for shore excursions. Formal nights during seated dinner can happen every other night. I suggest no more than 4-5 pairs of shoes including sandals, sneakers, and heels. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and any necessary medications. I prefer sunscreen with 50% SPF and 60-80 minutes coverage. Packing cubes are ESSENTIAL to maximizing your storage in your luggage. My must have products I use can be found on my LTK.
3. Making the Most of On-Board Activities:
One of the best things about a cruise is the wide range of activities available on board. From swimming pools and water slides to fitness centers and spa treatments, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check the daily schedule of events and plan your day accordingly, but also remember to take some time to relax and enjoy the scenery.
4. Exploring Ports of Call:
While the on-board activities are fun, the real excitement of a cruise is exploring new destinations. Depending on your itinerary, you may have the opportunity to visit tropical beaches, historic landmarks, bustling cities, or do some shopping. To make the most of your time in port, consider booking a shore excursion or researching local attractions ahead of time. Carnival provided a book of excursions for us with more than 100 options to choose from with various prices at each port. However, one downside may have been there were not many options of times available. As a travel agent I have the ability to book shore excursions outside the Carnival offerings that would give multiple options in time and can be at a discounted rate.
5. Dining on a Cruise:
Cruise ships are known for their delicious food, alcoholic beverages, and most offer a variety of dining options to suit every taste. From formal dining rooms to casual buffets and specialty restaurants, there’s no shortage of culinary delights on board. Keep in mind some options may have an additional cost like a steak restaurant or special restaurant. Be sure to also try some of the local specialties at each port of call, and don’t be afraid to ask the waitstaff for recommendations.
A cruise is a unique and unforgettable experience, offering travelers the chance to explore new destinations while enjoying all the comforts of home. By choosing the right cruise, packing wisely, and making the most of on-board activities and shore excursions, you can create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or as a couple, a cruise is the perfect way to unwind, relax, and explore the world.
