Welcome Back Bloomers!
Have you started decorating for Christmas yet? Marcus and I have a Christmas tradition of decorating our tree together after Thanksgiving. Every year Marcus and change our tree style. Last year we opted for more of a glam tree with gold, champagne, and lots of SPARKLE. Our tree was very special to us as we had personalized ornaments made for the first time. For every year Marcus and I have been together we have a personalized ornament with the year and a photo of us during that year. I look forward to the day to share this tradition with our littles.
It is so exciting styling our tree differently each year and gives us something to look forward too. I will admit it took some time for me to fully understand how to properly decorate our tree. Y’all should see the first tree we had when we started dating lol It was a work in progress to say the least but it was our first tree and so special to share our very first Christmas together. It was like a 5 ft tall white tree. We have come a long way since then haha.
I have been obsessed with flocked trees and every year we buy a few cans of flocking spray. For the past 6 years give or take I have visited my best friend in Colorado in the Winter time. The snowy look on the tree gives a euphoria feeling as if I was in the mountains all over again. One thing I love about our tree is that it has a remote and changes light colors. The lights turn from white to multicolor and has multiple different timed setting options. It is the best of both worlds. Shoutout to At Home for having such a great product.
Over the years I have come up with some tips that have helped me tremendously. These are eight tips that have relieved a lot of tree decorating stress. I hope these tips help you as much as they helped me.
- Invest in a quality tree– It is important choosing the right tree. I am allergic to pine therefore having a real tree is out of the question for us. It was important for us to get a tree that looked as real as possible with no flaking of leaves. You want the branches to be full and the tree to be fluffy with little gaps shown. Ensure your tree’s height is proportioned to your ceilings.
- Add ornaments of different sizes– This creates dimension throughout the tree. It allows your eyes to follow a path and gives your tree a pattern of purpose.
- Stick to a specific theme– If you choose Winter Wonderland ensure all ornaments are within the same color scheme and complement each other.
- Pre-Lit Trees are a MUST– We opted for a prelit tree and it made decorating so much easier. We purchased a tree years ago that we had to add lights and did not like the overall outcome. We could never get the pattern to flow correctly and the lights were very noticeable.
- Buy ornament sets in 2-3+ – Buying in sets is less costly. Typically you can get ornament sets in many different varieties with different sizes. Ultimately I will buy a 40 pc set and add in additional ornaments as I see fit. When opting for specialty or personalized options 2-3 give the perfect touch. You can create a Z-shaped pattern with all the clusters.
- Poinsettias are a staple– One of my favorite things to add to our tree is poinsettias. They come in a variety of colors and styles and always give a bold look to your tree. They definitely serve as a focal point and can fill up space easily.
- Monogram Ornaments– Every year Marcus and I get a new ornament from Pottery Barn with the year stamped on it that allows us to include a photo. This is one of my favorite traditions we have started as a family.
- Add Ribbon– I did not know what I was missing until I started adding ribbon to our tree. This will give your tree an elevated look of nostalgia. With so many different types of ribbons and sizes you can create many unique looks. I like to add ribbon 2-3 inches wide. Pinterest is your best friend with many patterns to style the ribbon. You can even make bows to add to your tree.
