Welcome Back Bloomers.
Day 3 we decided to take a day trip to the island of Paros. We planned our trip through Ferryhopper which was so easy. One thing I really love about Ferryhopper is the ability to plan a return trip same day or a few days. The app allowed us to view trips to different islands by days and times that worked best for our schedule.
We woke up around 5AM to get ready for our taxi to the port. It took about 25 min to get there so it was important we were on time for our 6AM pickup. Y’all know we had to also ensure we gave ourselves enough time to climb them stairs 😂 We were originally told it would take 45 min without traffic but realized that was a lie lol Our ferry was scheduled for 8AM departure to Paros and we arrived around 6:25AM. It was recommended to arrive an hour earlier and as we arrived so early we were able to have some breakfast at this restaurant called Kalogeros. The coffee and breakfast was a great start to our journey for the day.
It is typically cool in the morning and can get chilly at night so bringing a light jacket would be recommended. It does warm up pretty fast however. But let’s take a moment to talk about this ferry. When I say they take the meaning of ferry to a new level I am not underestimating it. This ferry has comfortable seats and a bakery and coffee shop inside.
Once we arrived to Paros we headed straight for the beach. We decided to spend an hour before our wine tasting at Santa Maria Beach. The beach was beautiful and quiet with very few people. We lounged out at Santa Maria Beach & Bar and had a snack, enjoyed some drinks, and took a dip in the water. We were pleasantly surprised at how cold the water was on this hot day. A little fun in the sun was well worth it this day. We did wish we had more time to enjoy on the beach before heading to our next destination. Until next time.
Now the highlight of our day was definitely our wine and cheese tasting. Our winery of choice this day was Moraitis Winery located in Naoussa Paros. The ground were absolutely gorgeous and we learned so much. We had the pleasure of tasting 5 different house wines and ended up purchasing a bottle of their Rose which was our favorite. We had pairings with cheese as well which I find is always a must. One thing we really enjoyed was the tour of the facility as we were able to learn about the history of the winery and how their wine was produced. In addition to this, we were able to see the vineyard and machines used to make the wine. The staff was very knowledgable and helpful. They assisted us with setting up the reservation while still in the states. One fun fact about wineries in Greece is that due to the climate the grapes grow closest to the ground which results in grapevines that can be hundreds of years old.
After all this excitement it was time to eat some food. We decided to go back to the port and dined at Hellas in Parikia, Paros. The food was PHENOMENAL. I mean it was so flavorful and the portion sizes were just right. Plus, they were very affordable. I enjoyed the Chicken souvlaki which included 3 chicken skewers with pita, fries, sauce, and a salad. Marcus had one of their pita tacos. Now it was time to head back to Santorini. I hope you all enjoyed our guide to Paros.
