Welcome Back Bloomers!
Now I know you all have been waiting on the details from our trip to Tulum. This was a much needed trip as we planned to go to Destin for Marcus birthday in June of 2020 that was cancelled due to COVID-19. We then rescheduled our vacation to September to be able to celebrate both our birthday’s and eventually decided on going to Costa Rica.
A few weeks before our trip we found out they were not allowing entry into their country so we were at, yet again, another road block. I did some research and decided Mexico was our next best option and Tulum, MX was right on my bucket list. BOOM!!! So we booked it.
Hotel: Alea Tulum
Okay, so first off our hotel was AMAZING. The view was exceptional and the service was wonderful. We were greeted with staff wearing mask and our temperature taken as well as a squirt of hand sanitizer. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a drink at the front counter and they were mighty tasty and called Blue Sky. I wanted a hotel that has something special and unique to offer and was not too far from the night life. Our room of choice was the Ocean View Swim Up Suite. That’s right, we had an ocean view from our room and our patio had a pool in front that wrapped around the side of the building to the middle of the hotel entry.
So now lets back track a little. Our first stop when we arrived in Cancun was La Sirena Restaurant in Puerto Morelos. We were so ready for lunch and based on the reviews this place was exactly what we needed to kick off the start of our vacation the right way. Appetizers are a must for us whenever we go out so we ordered the Stuffed Jalapeños and they did not disappoint. If you are familiar with the cream cheese and jalapeño viral tik toks going around, it is safe to safe someone was late to the party with this delicious treat. Now when in Mexico seafood is a must to eat. Why you might ask? Because everything is caught the same day! You heard me right it is ALL fresh. The difference in taste is something serious. I ordered the Mero Al Gusto which consisted of stuffed Grouper on a bed of rice with a basil pesto sauce. It was something different than the usual but I was not a huge fan of this particular fish, however the presentation of their meal was SUPERB. Marcus ordered a Mango Margarita and I a Strawberry Margarita. Very Delicious. Take a look at some candid shots of us and our meal.
Now back to the hotel tour.
Day 2
Our hotel offered free breakfast every morning from a menu on their website and the food was always brought right to our room and set up inside. Breakfast was from 7:30 to 11 AM every morning. We ordered room service for breakfast almost every day and the options were great and always cooked to perfection as well as presentable on our plates. No matter what we ordered, the food or drinks were always brought straight to our room. You have the option to customize your omelette as well as scrambled eggs from a list of add ons. Each breakfast service you are allotted a choice of one coffee or tea , one appetizer and one main dish. Every meal also included a bread basket, butter, and their homemade jam which was FANTASTIC. Take a look.
This was our relaxation day to wind down and soak in the views. We spent the morning in the pool and sipping on some drinks enjoying each others company. Not to mentioned we captured some great shots in the process. Babe definitely stepped up his photography skills haha.
We spent the rest of the day visiting the Mayan Ruins.
So much history and culture in this place. The process and development was beyond amazing to learn about. The fact that we were able to be in such a historic place was mind blowing. The craftsmanship here was impeccable to witness after all these years. I mean how could you not love this eye catching view.
Not pictured is our lunch from Coral Azul. I order chicken quesadillas that were by far the best I have ever had. Marcus had the grilled fish and of course you guessed it we had magaritas haha.
Day 3
Day 3 was one for the books. We slept in then headed over to the store for some goodies. Chedraui was the grocery store we shopped at and was only about 10 minutes from the hotel. We were greeted at the store with temperature checks and hand sanitizer. Once inside we purchased some Patron and mixers to create drinks with. They also had an ATM located into to exchange USD for Pesos. I definitely recommend exchanging your money as not all restaurant’s have card readers. Some banks also have foreign transaction fees that can be 5+%. We also noticed that some restaurants even charged an additional fee for you to use a US card like Coral Azul which was 4%.
On this day we took our engagement photos on the beach. Talk about magical and thrilling. My hair and makeup was we done by Sara Tamargo. The service was phenomenal and I was able to last minute schedule them to also do my hair as I previous scheduled for makeup only. Here is a photo of the finishing touches. Needless to say my stylist made me feel like a queen and was so respectful. She came prepared with photos of ideas I sent in of makeup and hair.
We are currently waiting to receive our photos as our photographer mentioned it will take 2 weeks. Stay tuned for that blog with his information 😉 This was an interesting experience unlike any other. We were not expecting to be on an open beach with a crowd of people around. Jorge (our photographer) had us reaching our fears by standing on these rocks in the ocean to capture our last outfit change. We ended the night with a dip in the pool.
Day 4
Day 4 started with a cup of Nespresso and breakfast at DelCielo. Just talking about it I can taste the Huevos Rancheros. Sadly, I can not recall the name of my coffee drink I had however it had caramel and was the only drink with it so that should be easy to find haha. Marcus enjoyed there fresh made Tropical Smoothie and egg scramble.
Once back at the hotel we soaked up some sun on the beach and Marcus made this cute twig he found in the sand. After relaxing, we headed to Santa Fe Beach for some snorkeling. We took a short boat ride and reached our destination to see some fish and sting rays. Now I have been snorkeling twice before during my first trip to Mexico and was not pleased with this experience. Snorkeling mouth guards were not provided to us and we were only given goggles with a nose piece. During this tour waters were rocky and the tide was high along with the wind. I did not have my goggles tight enough and water got in and I inhaled some water that ruined the rest of the experience for me. I got back in the boat and let Marcus continue exploring as this was his first time. We booked this tour through the Ruins tour guide for $80 or so. Now personally I don’t feel this tour was worth $80 as when we got into the Ruins area we notices it was $10 for a ticket and the snorkeling was a poor performance.
We ended the night with dinner at a hotel on our road called Cielo Maya. Our appetizer of choice was Shrimp Ceviche accompanied with mango and strawberry margaritas and dinner of choice was grilled fish for myself with rice and steam veggies and steak for Marcus. This was a beautiful hotel and shockingly a couple from our snorkeling tour stayed here as we saw them walking in while being served. This meal was so delicious and seasoned well.
Back to the hotel for some pool time! As you can tell we LOVED having a swim up suite. We spent almost every day in the water.
Day 5
WORKOUT. Now if you visit Tulum it is a must that you visit the Tulum Jungle Gym. Around noon we headed to the beach to check it out after it insane reputation.
After our great workout it was lunch time so we walked to Ahau Tulum Restaurant that was on the beach and had a trendy set up. What is lunch without drinks on the beach lol We started off enjoying the scenery as our table which over looked the beach front. Shrimp ceviche was our appetizer of choice and it was delicious and so flavorful. I enjoyed some grilled chicken with some grilled veggies and salad. Our drinks of choice for this day was a mango margarita for myself along with a corona beer and Marcus enjoyed a Morning Wood and Long Island.
Fast forward to dinner at El Capitan. Now I would recommend this spot however I personally feel they overcharged us by $20 for dinner. The conversion of pesos to USD was $59 yet we were told $73. That is a HUGE difference in price. We ordered the seafood platter and I had a pina colada. The food was truly amazing despite the circumstances. Combination ceviche was our appetizer that came with the seafood platter. The platter consisted of fried snapper, grilled fish fillet, calamari, octopus, with a size salad and rice.
What an eventful day we had we were tired and so full after dinner as you can see it was ALOT of food.
Day 6
As this was our last night in Tulum we decided to head back over to downtown Tulum for some lunch and a special romantic dinner. I had a friend tell me how fantastic Bak was and the food portions were large and worth the money so we made reservations. The atmosphere at Bak was incredible and unlike anything we have been to before. But be prepared to spend your coins haha.
Dinner at Bak was EPIC. It was so romantic and the service was the best I have ever received. Jair was our waiter and he was always close by to assist us with anything we needed. He informed us about the menu and top choices. I was surprise to find out that all furniture was made custom even the dinner plates. Marcus has USDA New York steak with a side of asparagus and I ordered the Moroccan Tuna with a side order of mashed potatoes that was exquisite. For our drinks of choice I had a Mai Tai and a Hibiscus Margarita and Marcus had a Long Island.
Day 7
Home Sweet Home.My sweet friend Deandra made us some custom shirts. We were planning on wearing these as another outfit change for our engagements however time did not allow so we wore them on our flight back home. How cute are these shirts? I found the idea on Etsy.
Swimsuits are from:

Matte Collection Lorenzo One Piece & Multi Colored One Piece
Pink Stilettos Kloset Cheetah Orange
For lunch and dinner on some nights we ordered room service from our hotel Alea Tulum by Blue Sky and its sister hotel Mereva by Blue Sky which was on the same street. Our hotel restaurant closed at 3pm which is why we were able to order room service from the sister hotel. When we arrived to the hotel we received a QR code to scan that allowed us to order breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not shown is pizza we ordered from Mereva. Pepperoni pizza was decent and completely different than you average pizza from Dominos or Papa John’s. On another occasion we ordered shrimp pasta and shrimp tacos.
