Welcome Back Bloomers!
Today, we are talking all about coconuts. I must admit I use to not like them I mean I thought they taste horrible and could not even understand how people would consume them yet alone coconut water. Well we all know that as we get older our food palate expands and now I truly enjoy the taste. At least coconut water that is! If it is one thing that is now always stocked in our refrigerator it is Vita Coco Coconut Water. My favorite is their Pineapple flavor and Peach Mango. I use the original in smoothies and açaí bowls.
There are so many benefits that I love about coconut water that I did not know at first so I knew it was important for me to share with you all. For starters, coconut water is rich in electrolytes.
What does that mean you ask?
Electrolytes are important because they keep the amount of water in your body balanced as well as your acidic and pH levels. Now we all know how important it is to stay hydrated especially when you have just finished a workout. Coconut water is great for post workouts because they provide your body with replenishment of nutrients that were lost while sweating. Some of those nutrients include sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. I will add that it has been proven American’s lack potassium in their diet. Common symptoms from experiencing low potassium in your diet may include fatigue, palpitations, muscle weakness, and more. Coconut water is a great way source of getting these nutrients back into your body needs.
I noticed a huge difference in my overall energy level by drinking more coconut water. I also became aware of truly how dehydrated I was. For me water can get very bland at times and lately I have been struggling to drink more water. These juices definitely help me ensure I am staying hydrated. They are also great substitutes for water in smoothies. I love that they are low in calories, lower in sugar compared to other juices, and rich in nutrients.
Each serving contains 470mg of potassium and every box is 2 servings. Research shows that coconut water may aid in lowering blood pressure, risk of diabetes, and acne prevention. Because coconut water acts as an anti-inflammatory it can decrease excessive oils on your skin which reduces breakouts. In addition to having anti inflammatory properties these juices provide Vitamin C and fiber. Vitamin C is great for your skin because it helps prevent sun damage and promotes collagen production. If you are trying to cut down your sugar intake these are a GREAT option.
I have put together some of my favorite benefits below.
- Packed with electrolytes
- Loaded with potassium
- Low in calories
- Rich in magnesium
- Acts as an anti-inflammatory agent
